Demolition work in and around Rotterdam results in large quantities of bulk concrete rubble and soil, which is often disposed of as a waste product. The Port of Rotterdam Authority, Municipality of Rotterdam and Rijkswaterstaat are looking to upcycle and re-use this rubble locally, rather than disposing of it.

With the support of the World Wildlife Fund, these parties are combining this objective with the construction of five kilometres of nature-friendly banks along the peninsular at Rozenburg. And so they are creating new tidal nature.

Together, the four Supporting roles reinforce the ecological value of the area, by creating this Green Gateway between the port area and the sea. At the same time, the regional ‘waste’ has a second lease of life.
